Shining Light in the Shadows: Black educator leadership in the time of COVID-19
Thursday, February 17, 2022, 6:00 p.m. CST

Join rank-and-file Chicago Teachers Union educators Thursday, Feb. 17, for “Shining Light in the Shadows,” the first of two forums in our continued celebration of Black History Month.
This week’s discussion brings educators at schools on the South and West sides of the city (including our very own Nina Hike!) to the forefront to discuss school safety and reimagining education during the COVID-19 pandemic, how to nurture and retain Black educators, schools and educators as anchors of Black Chicago, Critical Race Theory and attacks on Black curriculum, and more.
How can Black educators build power in their schools and communities, and in their union? How can Black rank-and-file leaders empower other Black educators to recognize and use their own power? These are important questions to answer, and a conversation not to be missed.
