About Pushing Praxis
Paulo Freire (1970) described praxis as “reflection and action directed at the structures to be transformed.”
Pushing Praxis is a space for exploring teaching, learning, inquiry, justice, and community through dialogue, curriculum, public scholarship, and action. Through podcast conversations, classroom resources, writing, and professional learning,
I share instructional practices that invite educators to think deeply about the decisions they make in their classrooms and the experiences those decisions create for students.
Grounded in Freire’s vision of critical consciousness, Pushing Praxis explores how race, racism, identity, power, culture, and community shape teaching and learning.
Drawing from culturally relevant science teaching and justice-oriented science education, the work encourages educators to question dominant assumptions, value multiple ways of knowing, foster student and epistemic agency, and create conditions for rightful presence in which all learners are recognized as contributors to knowledge.
The classroom resources, reflections, and praxes shared here are grounded in the belief that instructional decisions matter. By making instructional decision-making visible, Pushing Praxis helps educators thoughtfully adapt ideas to support their own students, classrooms, and communities.
